International Securities Identification Number (ISIN)

The Uganda Securities Exchange a member of the Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) and is recognized by the latter as the National Numbering Agency for Uganda. Since 2010, the USE is responsible for codifying financial instruments issued by issuers that are registered in Uganda and financial instruments where the lead manager’s registered office is in Uganda in accordance with the ISO-6166 Standard. The securities for which the USE allocates ISIN codes include those issued by global business companies registered in Uganda

The ISIN codes allocated to listed companies are shown on the contract notes, transaction reports as well as other reports provided by USE.

The USE also allocates CFI Codes (Classification of financial instruments) and FISN (Financial Instrument Short Name) to securities in accordance with ISO-10962 and ISO-18774 respectively.

Applying for an ISINs

Applicants and/or representatives must file an application with Uganda Securities Exchange for an ISIN.

The minimum set of data necessary for an ISIN allocation may depend on the requirements specified by the ISO 6166 Standard, ANNA Guidelines, the type of financial instrument involved and any other data prescribed by the USE, including, but not limited, to any supporting documentation.​​​​​​​

Turnaround times on requests for allocation of ISINs

In accordance with ANNA guidelines, the USE will allocate ISINs in a timely manner, usually within 24 hours following the request or the next business day, provided the correct documentation is provided with the request.
